Greenskeeper Plus Lawn Care
A program of periodic [liquid treatments] providing eco-responsible, complex bio-fertilizer and protection from harmful pests, resulting in outstanding performance from your lawn. We provide this high-quality yearly program at a very reasonable cost -often lower than other firms- all things considered.

Greenskeeper Plus is a lawn health care program that has been continuously improved over many years, focusing on healthy soil, not just green grass. The complex relationship between healthy soil and healthy plants has been widely studied and documented by universities and independent sources for many years.

Recognizing that healthy soil & turf will need many components to thrive, we have developed a very high quality treatment program that includes at least thirteen different nutrients and biological additives. Most over-the-counter fertilizers have three or four ingredients.
Greenskeeper Plus treatments are an extravagant offering for turf.

Using the latest state-of-the-art technology and equipment, we are able to safely and effectively apply our complex products in liquid form. We are confident that beautiful, healthy turf can be enjoyed with no unreasonable risk to human, pets, wildlife, or the environment. Control products (pesticides) are rarely needed when plants, including grass plants, are healthy.

Greenskeeper Lawn Care

Greenskeeper Lawn Care provides the major nutrients, nitrogen and potassium. Greenskeeper Lawn Care is a similar program to the above except the organic biological additives are deleted, lowering the cost. Pest treatments are included as well. If your budget is tight, this program may be the best choice.

Sleeping Lawn Care

Sleeping Lawn Care is a program of treatments for lawns that are infrequently watered during dry months. Treatments are applied when rainfall is expected from early fall through late spring. The products applied are identical to our
Greenskeeper Plus program but treatments are limited to three each year.  This program will help sleeping lawns navigate through our dry summers in good health. During dry weather, watering is recommended every two weeks to keep the grass plants alive otherwise your lawn could end up being dead, not just asleep. “Sleeping” lawns usually turn brown in the summer, which is normal.

If you choose to limit summer watering, this program would be an excellent investment in the health of your “sleeping” lawn.

Natural Lawn Care - Pesticide Free
Natural Lawn Care is a program of treatments identical to our Greenskeeper Plus Lawn Care program but all control products, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides are eliminated. The program focuses on nutrition with liquid bio-fertilizer components. Control of pests that may arise- weeds, insects and disease- is the responsibility of the property owner.

Our bio-fertilizer contains no organic products that would be socially objectionable, like smelly compost or manures. The high analysis organic additives in our bio-fertilizer leave no offensive odors. Since iron (ferrous sulfate, like you find in good vitamins) is a major player in plant health, we add it to all of our treatments. Iron does have a slight metallic odor but only for a short time, and should not pose a problem.

Liquid treatments
Since all our treatments (except lime) are liquid, there are no particles scattered about on hard surfaces or ornamental beds. This on-target application method reduces the chance that any of our products would end up in a public water system or body of water.

Liquid formulas can be changed at will, giving great flexibility in product choice.  When weather conditions change drastically, i.e. drought or heavy rain, we can respond by altering the product mix to maximize results.

Our unique liquid delivery system allows us to inject control products right on the spot where they are needed. For example, a lawn that only has a few weeds will not be blanket sprayed with herbicide; weeds will be treated individually.  This practice eliminates blanket application of control products, which is one of our goals.

Consulting
There are times when advice and ideas are very helpful. The experience we have gained over the years can really help when problems arise. We are problem solvers and can help you find solutions to any landscape needs from ancient trees to potted plants. The very best way to avoid problems is to plan well before a landscape is installed. Most landscape problems we encounter could have be avoided with better planning and discovery prior to construction and installation. Help is just a phone call away.

Referral bonus
We know the best way for us to grow is by customer referral, so we’d rather reward you then spend money on media advertising. Growing by referral means we will need to meet or exceed our customers’ expectations, something we’ve always worked hard to accomplish. We’ll be glad to send you $20.00 for every new customer that orders a minimum amount of treatments ($250).

(Make sure you ask them to mention your name so we know who send the check to!)

Treatment Components

Complex bio-fertilizer

This phosphate free*, liquid bio-fertilizer is a blend of:

  • Organic/synthetic urea nitrogen, treated to minimize volitization (movement into the atmosphere) and leaching (movement through the soil).  Our treated nitrogen does not encourage surge growth as do most other forms of soluble nitrogen.
  • Potash
    • Mined from the ground and processed for liquid application.
  • Fully chelated micro-nutrients
    • Full chelation delays oxidation and holds micro-nutrients in a form plants can assimilate easily.  We chelate with an organic acid that is not environmentally persistent like E.D.T.A.**
  • Fulvic acid***
    • Extracted from ancient shale, mined from the ground.
    • USDA organic compliant
  • Dormant soil microbes.
    • Derived from plants, they cycle organic matter and nutrients for root uptake and discourage thatch accumulation.
    • USDA organic compliant

*No phosphorus added

Phosphorus is indigenous and abundant in Northwest soils.  Supplemental applications of phosphorus can become mobile and with move into bodies of water where they can stimulate algal growth.  We purposely do not add phosphorus to any of our fertilizer blends.

**E.D.T.A.

E.D.T.A. (Disodium Ethylenediamine Tetra Acetate), is a widely used, effective chelating agent found in many products including fertilizers, cosmetics, household cleaning products and vitamins.  It does, however, have a problem as noted below from a science journal…

“(E.D.T.A.)..behaves as a persistent environmental pollutant enhancing the mobility and bio-availability and re-mobilization of heavy metals…and is a major concern”.

Quim, Nova, Vol. 26, No. 6, 2003

Why is fulvic acid important?

The fulvic acid molecule is very small and easily assimilated by plant roots.  Beneficial metals, i.e. iron, copper, zinc etc., are naturally attracted to fulvic acid and “piggy back” into the roots.  Full chelation  “unlocks” elements in the soil that would otherwise be unavailable, benefiting plants and soil health. Fulvic acid turns on the plants “pump”, stimulating the movement of nutrients and water through the plant.

You will find fulvic acid listed as a human dietary supplement online.  The same benefit is sought, that being to aid the assimilation of beneficial metals, such as iron, into the blood system.

Our continued research into the needs of plants and the need to protect our environment drives the choices of the components used in our treatment programs.  Be assured we will continue to improve as new information, and products become available.

As expected, this approach to lawn nutrition costs more, but we believe the benefits far outweigh the added cost.

Treatments are liquid and on-target.
Off-target application is minimized with, hand-held delivery equipment. We do not apply dry fertilizer. Dry fertilizer left on pavement, sidewalks, or curbing can be easily moved by water runoff, ultimately contaminating our public water supply or other bodies of water. Liquid treatments minimize accidental application to non-turf surfaces.

We manufacture our own products
The nitrogen extender, organic microbial product, fulvic acid, and chelated micro-nutrients used in our bio-fertilizer treatments are manufactured in Olympia Washington by our sister company, Plant Essentials, L.L.C. Click here to learn more about Plant Essentials.

Pests

State-of-the-art equipment
Broadleaf weeds and crane fly larvae are treated with state-of-the-art equipment, allowing spot-treating, reducing the amount of control products needed to a fraction of the amount traditional broadcast methods require. Our guns are equipped with a two triggers, one for bio-fertilizer, the other for control products, i.e. herbicide, insecticide or fungicide. Synthetic control products may be eliminated by simply not pulling the trigger during application. If there is a customer preference for pesticide free treatments or no demonstrated need for them, they can be easily eliminated.

Turf disease (fungus)

Turf diseases do occur in our area. The most prevalent are Red Thread and Fusarium Patch. We have treatments available that will prevent or cure existing fungus problems.

(Red Thread)

(Fusarium Patch)

As a rule, we do not include fungus treatments in our annual programs because of the transient nature of turf disease. However, chronic disease has become a problem due to weather conditions the last few years. Therefore we are recommending preventive treatments for Fusarium Patch in October and December. Red Thread infection is usually related to nitrogen deficiency but has been a problem recently even on lawns where nitrogen was available. We have an excellent product for Red Thread control now, and treatments can be added to a program or applied separately should a problem arise.

Weed Grasses

Annual bluegrass (poa annua) is recognizable by its light grey-green seed head and light green color. Treatments are available to minimize annual bluegrass invasion. We apply a pre-emergence product that hinders germination of poa annua seeds. Two treatments are recommended prior to the major germination times in April/May and September/October. Since existing weed grasses are not controlled by the pre-emergence products, visible poa annua plants will need to be dug out or spot treated with Roundup.

Poa annua on left (recognizable seed head), Quackgrass on right (distinctive blade shape and color)

Quackgrass is another very common weed grass often confused with Crabgrass. There is no selective or pre-emergence product available for Quackgrass control, so spot treating with Roundup, removal of the plants by hand, patching with sod, or reseeding may be necessary.

Crabgrass is not a problem in our area and no treatment is needed.

Educational Information

Information and education.
Written information is left with other paperwork upon the completion of each treatment. Watering instructions, mowing tips, and technician remarks may be included to help our customers achieve the best results from each treatment. Growing a healthy lawn is a team effort, requiring customer involvement.

We leave educational "how-to" flyers that help homeowners understand what they can do to make sure their lawn reaches its potential. Our technicians watch for additional landscape needs and bring them to the customer's attention by note or phone call.

Technician Licensing & Training

Licensing and training required.

Our technicians are licensed by the State of Washington Dept. of Agriculture. Our techs are trained on the job by seasoned veterans. On-going education opportunities are available for every tech. The Dept. of Agriculture and product suppliers offer frequent classes and workshops during the year. Re-certification is required every 5 years for all of our techs that apply pesticides, whether organic or synthetic.

Call your technician.
All of our technicians have cell phones and can be reached during business hours. We are a responsive company, eager to give information about treatments and answer other landscape questions.
